The International Federation of Essential Oils and Aroma Trades (IFEAT) has joined a united front of European industry associations in a sector-wide statement on the upcoming Omnibus proposal on Chemicals. Published ahead of the European Commission’s planned release on 8th July 2025, the Sector-wide statement ahead of the publication of the Commission’s Omnibus proposal on Chemicals (planned on 8 July 2025) advocates for “Smart Simplification” within the EU’s cosmetic and fragrance sectors.
IFEAT, alongside Cosmetics Europe, EFEO, EFfCI, IFRA, NATRUE, and SMEunited, is calling for streamlined processes that prioritise consumer safety while reducing unnecessary administrative burdens and fostering innovation. The group highlights concerns that current regulations can lead to automatic bans of safe cosmetic ingredients, including natural ones, based solely on hazard classifications, without considering real-world use.
As a key representative of the essential oils and aroma trades, IFEAT is committed to raising awareness among policymakers about the nature, applications, and cultural and economic significance of these ingredients. The statement calls for concrete, science-based solutions in the Omnibus proposal, including a revised Article 15.2 of the Cosmetic Products Regulation to allow for risk-based exemptions, realistic reformulation timelines, and the protection of natural ingredients.
IFEAT and its co-signatories are fully prepared to support these efforts with scientific and industry input and data, aiming to secure Europe’s leadership in safe, innovative cosmetic and fragrance manufacturing.
